Speakers
This years guest speakers will be Martin Smith, Dr Dave Chandler and John Drakes
John Drakes will be giving a talk entitled 'The collection of honeybee venom and its use in apitherapy' in the afternoon.
Martin Smith
Martin has kept bees for over 25 years. He learnt his beekeeping in Hampshire. He was appointed to the BBKA Executive Committee in January 2005. As Chairman of the BBKA he has led the recent campaign for more funding into bee research.
Dr Dave Chandler
Dr Chandler is a leading researcher into fungal treatments for Varroa. He is a microbiologist, and conducts research into invertebrate microbial interactions. He is part of the Integrated Pest Management(IPM) and Biocontrol group of the Association of Applied Biologists. He is a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society, and a convenor for the British Invertebrate Mycopathology Group.
John Drakes
John has worked for many years in the field of Apitherapy. He has, earlier this year, been training beekeepers in Uganda in the extraction of honeybee venom and its use in Apitherapy.
Exchange and mart
There will be a selection of second-hand equipment, books and magazines available to purchase. Please feel free to bring along any spare equipment you would like to sell. During the lunch break there will be stalls in the entrance selling home-made jams, pickles, hand-made soaps and lotions and a selection of plants.
