


Annual Convention
The Lancashire and North West Beekeepers Association Annual Convention was held on Saturday October 20th 2007 at :-
Grindleton Road,
West Bradford,
Clitheroe,

Speakers
This years guest speakers will be Prof. Robert Pickard the Director-General of the British Nutrition Foundation and Dr Juliet Osborne
Dr Juliet Osborne will also be giving two talks entitled 'Bumblebee Behaviour & Radar tracking' in the morning and 'Bumblebee Ecology & Conservation' in the afternoon.
Prof. Robert Pickard
Prof. Pickard is the Director-General of the British Nutrition Foundation, Emeritus Professor of neurobiology at the University of Cardiff, which he joined in 1972, and is a member of the Consumers' association Council (Which?). He is an international authority on the biology of honeybees, former editor of the Journal of Apicultural Research and President of both the Cardiff Beekeepers Association and the Central Association of Beekeepers. He is also a member of the EuroFIR Council, which co-ordinates composition records on 21,000 foods in 47 institutions in 25 different countries.
Dr Juliet Osborne
Dr Osborne heads the department of Plant & Invertebrate Ecology at Rothhamstead Research and is a leading expert on bumblebees and bumblebee behaviour. She is currently studying the ecology of pollinator behaviour and is also examining insect flight patterns with harmonic radar.
Exchange and mart
There will be a selection of second-hand equipment, books and magazines available to purchase. Please feel free to bring along any spare equipment you would like to sell. During the lunch break there will be stalls in the entrance selling home-made jams, pickles, hand-made soaps and lotions and a selection of plants.

Lunch will consist of hot pot with pickled cabbage, crusty bread and homemade jam and cakes. It will cost an extra £4.00 on top of the admission price. A small fee will be charged for tea, coffee and home made cakes during breaks. Vegetarian option available.
