HON. EXHIBITION OFFICER'S REPORT ON COUNTY HONEY SHOW

11th October 2008

It was our first year at the new venue of Samlesbury War Memorial Hall and it quite adequately provided all that was needed for the Show. The overall kitchen standard was excellent, but there were some complaints about the lecture room and heating.

The Show itself was well supported with 17 exhibitors showing 113 exhibits.

The judges' summation pointed out a few minor showing faults, like finger prints on jars, that jars needed a polish with a soft cloth. There was no award for the granulated honey as the honeys were not granulated but could probably have been entered in the 'soft set' class. The standard in general was excellent.

The Edward Humphries Memorial lecture was given by Mr Peter Schollick on Beekeeping.

Management and reports were that it was interesting and informative.

The job of the Exhibitions Officer was a little more difficult this year as all the judges approached were busy through one thing or another and the person who agreed to do the lecture in January discovered that he had double booked in August. Mr Schollick came to the rescue. The judges eventually were Mr Steve Guest of Stockport and our own Mr Arthur Gillett of Liverpool.

Thanks must go to the people who helped the show run smoothly: Sheila Myron and Caroline Coughlin on entry sheets, awards and prize cards, Chairman John McCann looking after the speaker, Dorothy and Andrew Todd on tea and coffee and judges lunches and finally to all the exhibitors for entering.

Our President Mr E McCormick wasn't well enough to attend, so our vice-President Mr Arthur Gillett presided and presented the trophies.
